NDICam is the original NDI iOS camera developed by Sienna, known for their expertise in NDI broadcast infrastructure. This app boasts maturity and a wide range of features, offering both Full NDI and NDI HX3 modes.

The NDI (Network Device Interface) protocol establishes connections with professional vision mixers and various devices, providing users with high-quality, low-latency connections. Compatible with VMC, TC1, TriCaster, VMix, Wirecast, and numerous other professional IP video systems supporting NDI, NDICam offers:

<li>The ability to switch between front and rear cameras seamlessly during broadcasts</li>
<li>Control features like Auto Focus, AF Lock, Tap to Focus, Auto Exposure, AE Lock, Tap to Expose, Illumination light settings, and Audio Mute Control</li>
<li>Manual Naming of NDI Stream source for customization</li>
<li>Four quality/performance levels to cater to different devices and networks alongside the NDI HX Option</li>
<li>Pinch-to-zoom functionality where supported</li>
<li>Auto-lens mode for cameras with multiple lenses</li>
<li>On-screen live/preview tally with optional use of the camera flash as a talent tally (utilizing a red gel cover)</li>
<li>An option to prevent device sleep mode</li>
<li>The choice between 25FPS or 29.97FPS standard rates</li>
<li>Selection between Full NDI or NDI HX3 compression modes (including HX2 at 2 to 20 mBit and HX3 Ultra)</li>
<li>Rotation support for Portrait or Landscape Video Modes</li>
</ul>

NDICam allows users to select front or rear cameras effortlessly and offers a quality vs. frame rate slider for optimal video output based on wifi connection quality and iPhone processing capabilities. Depending on your iOS device specifications, compression mode selection, and network performance, NDICam supports up to 1080 full HD resolution.

The application provides control over flashlight usage, touch-to-focus capabilities, focus lock functionality, pinch-to-zoom features, and audio enabling. Additionally, users can utilize the phone's torch as a Tally Light by applying a red gel.

Note: If you encounter slow frame rates during maximum resolution operation at 1080 with a full HD camera due to poor network performance, leveraging the HX3 mode can be beneficial.

Note: The NDI protocol necessitates high bandwidth ideal for local area Gigabit networks. Therefore, users are advised to ensure a fast and stable wifi connection. To address slow frame rates, consider enhancing the wifi setup through router upgrades or network optimization strategies such as lessening interference or transitioning to 5GHz if on 2.4GHz.

Note: Utilizing HX3 Ultra mode requires a recent NDI 5 compatible receiver as it consumes approximately 50mBits of bandwidth. If network connectivity issues arise, opt for lower bandwidth HX2 modes.

NDICam is also compatible with wired ethernet connections to iOS devices for improved video streaming compared to unreliable wifi networks. Notably, positive outcomes have been observed using lightning to ethernet adaptors.

The latest update allows users to specify an NDI4 discovery server in the app settings. Changing this setting requires an application restart. Keep in mind that specifying a discovery server deactivates the standard mDNS (Bonjour) advertisement for the NDI Cam source—ensuring that your iOS device can communicate with the discovery server effectively within the network. In case of issues encountered, delete the Discovery Server entry and restart the app.

Note: Kindly remember that NDI HX3 Ultra mode demand current compatibility with an NDI 5 receiver.
